Coach Don Haskins (UTEP)
HASKINS, DONALD LEE (1930-2008)
Donald Lee "The Bear" Haskins, born in Enid, Oklahoma, on March 14, 1930, earned All-State honors in basketball and baseball with the Enid Plainsmen. He lettered three years and played on two National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) semifinals basketball teams under the legendary Henry Iba before graduating from Oklahoma A & M (now Oklahoma State University).
In thirty-eight years his UTEP teams won 719 games, a national championship, and seven Western Athletic Conference (WAC) titles and made fourteen NCAA Tournament appearances.
